New Weather Man!
Joseph is our new weather man. He knows temperatures of each season, and that there are different kinds of clouds, and they can forecast the weather. Cumulus clouds are puffy, Nimbus clouds are dark and mean rain, Stratus clouds are layers and mean drizzle or light rain, and Cirrus clouds are wispy like feathers and mean nice weather, and you can see the direction of where the weather is coming from. What’s the weather like today?

My Father’s Dragon MP3′s
The kids in Grade 3 are reading My Father’s Dragon right now. If hearing the chapter helps you, here is Librivox!
http://archive.org/details/my_fathers_dragon_0909_librivox
To garner the most benefit from Librivox, follow along in your book! You will learn how the words look, how they’re spelled, and gain reading fluency.
Boggles World
Boggles World is an ESL website that I like. Their list of sight words is divided by grade level, which makes your list of words to learn less-daunting.

Word Games Galore
Some word games are just annoying. I’ve searched for word games that are actually fun to play. If your child didn’t enjoy one of these, let me know and I’ll erase it!
http://www.mindjolt.com/word-drop.html – Click letters that are next to each other to start forming your word. Click the final letter twice to submit the word. If you get stuck, click the shuffle button. 15-second ad before each game.
http://www.mindjolt.com/games/word-slider - This is a word search puzzle that lets you slide around the letters within the puzzle. How many words can you assemble? Love it!
http://www.mindjolt.com/word-dimensions.html – A Rubik’s cube has letters on it, and you can form words by clicking adjacent letters, even going onto another side. Made words end up on a list to the right of the cube. 3-D Fun!
http://www.mindjolt.com/grammar-bee.html – The part of speech your bee is to find is at the top. If it says “Verbs”, use your arrow keys to move your bee to form a rectangle around verbs. A semi-intelligent bug chases you. Music is infectious and it’s fun to avoid the nasty bug!
http://thegamerstop.com/44585-Word-Whomp.html - Whomp the gophers to select the letters for the word you want to spell and then enter it. Whomp out as many words as you can before the timer runs out.
Make Beliefs Comix
http://www.makebeliefscomix.com/Comix/
Make Beliefs Comix let you make comics. Excellent backgrounds, a variety of characters you can place, and cool options for customizing. I’m always on the lookout for ways to motivate writers, and this is a good one. I have some 2nd graders and 3rd graders who could use this.
10 “KEYS” to a great summer
10 “KEYS” to a great summer:
1. MonKEY– Monkeys like to play with friends and be silly at times. They don’t seem to need an excuse. You don’t, either. Be silly a little this summer.
2. Hackey SacKEY –It’s a ball to kick new ideas around with your friends. The ball falls now and then. That’s okay.
3. ArKEYology – Take a little time to dig up your history, just to appreciate where you came from. Nurture your nature.
4. BlanKEY – Remember how it feels to Sleep in, Take a Siesta, Doze on the Beach…If you DON’T remember, do some intensive horizontal research.
5. HierarKEY – Keep sight of your 3 summer goals. Do one small thing a day to meet them. You don’t have 3 goals for this summer? Make them now!
6. MicKEY – Cartoons are funny because unexpected things happen. You can be a cartoon now and then. It’s OK to be memorable.
7. NiKEY – Get those sneakers on. Sweat five times this week. Be creative (You can even skip it)!
8. SpooKEY – Do something this summer that you’ve been afraid to try. After all–You’re older now.
9. SparKEY – Get beside a campfire this summer. Sing, tell a story, roast marshmallows, hug whoever’s next to you, and stay long enough to stir the coals awhile.
10. HoKEY – PoKEY – Dance, dance, dance! Try to dance at least three times– once when there’s no music playing, once with a child under 5, and once in the rain. If you’re busy, combine all three.
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!
Abby’s Jeopardy Game
Abby had the kids write questions about 5 stories in our Mythology unit. She used superteachertools and came up with this:
