Showcase Your Passion!

Each week, we will select a child or two to present their passion during CMT (Community Meeting Time).   They can bring pictures and props to help them present.  We can’t wait to learn something exciting and special about each child.  Our first presenter was Mrs.  Tolhurst.  Can you guess what her passion is?20130922-165852.jpg20130922-165845.jpg20130922-165838.jpg

Spagetti Marshmallow Towers

DSCN2106In social studies we tried to make the tallest strongest tower out of marshmallows and spaghetti.  We were trying to learn how to work together in a group.  I wish I could have used big marshmallows.

Adventures with Mr. Hartman!

This week and last week, we went to the Harley microgarden.  We asked questions and made observations, because we wanted to find out things about the garden that we didn’t know. For example, Isabelle asked the following question, “When are we doing Harlic Garlic?”  That is a very good question!  Syler noticed that the sunflowers are very big in the garden.  He’s right!

We also planted sea seeds. First, we made trenches in the dirt. Next, we put peas in the trenches about two fingers apart. Lastly, we covered up the peas with dirt.  It was awesome and fun!

First day of school

First day of school

I have been teaching at Harley for 22 years. I taught Fourth Grade for 20 years, and this is my third year in Grade 3. My husband is Chris. We love to hike, bike, walk our dog Jessie, and watch our boys play sports. We also like the Yankees! I have coached the girl’s modified basketball team for seven years. In the summer I travel around to visit my nine brothers and sisters and their families. I also like to read, watch movies, and work in my garden. I am looking forward to getting to know my new wonderful class and having some exciting new learning experiences.

Meet Mrs. Green!

Hello Third Graders and Families!

My name is Mrs. Green, the student teacher! I am currently a student at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo who is finishing her Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood and Special Education. While studying education in college, I also minored in environmental studies, which is a passion of mine.

Harley is my first student teaching experience, and I could not be more thrilled with the group of students and teachers that I will have the pleasure of working with for the next six weeks! My previous teaching experiences have been in the Rochester Central School District at Schools 12 and 34, Geneseo Central School, and most recently, the Monroe #1 BOCES at the Lois E. Bird School.

As I mentioned in my open house letter, I had a very busy summer! Just to name a few events from the last few months, I got married, travelled to Bermuda and Canada, and then moved from New York to Alabama! During my crazy summer, I got to snorkel, hike to the top of mountain peaks and glaciers, and visit my favorite place in the world, The Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee. I hope to share some stories with you in class, and would love to hear about your summer adventures too!

My husband, Harrison, and me!

My husband, Harrison, and me!

To tell you a little about my personal life, I come from a family of five. Along with my parents, I have one younger sister and one younger brother. My sister, Suzie, is nineteen years old, and my brother, Shane, is thirteen. Now that I’m married, though, it’s like we have six in the family!  My husband’s name is Harrison, and he lives in Alabama where he is going to school to learn how to fly helicopters.  We also have a little puppy! She is the biggest fluff ball, and looks like a stuffed animal sometimes! Her name is Suwanee, and she is a Yorkie/Poodle mix. My hobbies and passions include baking, fashion, environmental science/studies, hiking, and singing. I especially like to bake, and I often send cookies to my family by mail.

I hope you are as excited as I am for this new school year in the third grade! We’re going to make it a great year full of fun challenges and creative projects! Remember: You’re off to great places, today is your day, your mountain is waiting, so get on your way! -Dr. Seuss

Adventures of French class

This week was our first week of French class. Mr. Blanc took us in the creek! We had to find rocks, shells, and there was glass in the creek.  We went so we could get stuff for the class nature box!  We are learning the words for these items in French.
