On Thursday, May 8th, the Briggs Center for Civic Engagement was transformed into a full-on fiddling zone! The Fiddlers of the Genesee returned to continue their side-by-side work with our string students in the Middle and Upper Schools, and the result was a rousing barn-dance style event! Kelly Schroeder’s 7th and 8th Grade string ensemble, as well as many Upper School guitar and string players, were joined by Linda Foster’s Cover Band club and Kristy Houston’s Jazz Band group during their regular Flex Time rehearsal. Jay Stetzer brought the 4th Grade students up to hear the music, and there was much clapping, singing and dancing to accompany the old time string tunes. Everyone read through many traditional and standard tunes from this region and beyond. We want to especially thank Sara Hartman, board member of FOG and current Harley grandparent, for helping forge connections between our string program and interested fiddlers with the Fiddlers of the Genesee! Stay tuned for a possible performance of Harley students at the annual Genesee County Village and Museum Fiddlers Fair this August!
