The Seventh Grade is tackling the problem of how to design a vertical hydroponic growing structure which maximizes access to nutrients (sunlight and liquid food), includes a system to deliver that food (solar-powered pump and plastic tubing), and takes up a limited amount of space. They are in the early stages of working in teams to design, build and test their small-scale models. Once completed, the students will observe the growth of the plants in the hydroponic tubes and record data, analyzing it to determine the best results. Mrs. Rivers’ science classes are all embarking on this authentic integration of life cycles, habitat, and scientific engineering!
