It was a sunny and warm afternoon in October when the Class of 2024 made their way to the varsity soccer field to throw around some pumpkins! The fourth grade students were challenged to create a device at home which would propel either a candy pumpkin or a real pumpkin/gourd. This long-term project culminated with the Great Pumpkin Chunkin’ exhibition! The categories of devices were: human-powered, catapult, or trebuchet. It was a beautiful day for the launches, and everyone was successful in sending their pumpkin skyward. Measures of distance and time were taken for future calculations of velocity.
