In third grade we read a lot! I (Isabel) love reading! Sometimes, we call quite reading DEAR time. DEAR is short for Drop Everything And Read. D stand’s for Drop. E stand’s for Everything. A stand’s for And. R stand’s for Read. Do think quite reading/dear time is fun? I do! Which do you call it, quite reading or dear time?

Harley community interviews
3rd graders today spent time using their interview skills. It is a tradition, during our community unit, to learn about the people that make up our own Harley community. They are asking staff and teachers how they help their own community and what makes a good citizen. They are learning how to take notes compose a writing piece.

spelling city
Spelling City is a bunch of spelling games on the computer. There are games like hang mouse, letter fall, and aim to spell. There is even someone playing spelling city next to me! So you need a password and user name. It helps kids learn because it makes you memorize the word.
This is Hang mouse.
It is so helpful to you.

Legos
Third grade has been building with Legos! They are not just any Legos, but female scientists. We are thrilled they are marketing these and our third grade girls couldn’t get enough of them. Shoshana and Maya built most of the set, but Bryn stepped in to be in the picture since Maya was sick. Great job, girls!

What’s Growing in the Commons
Today the third graders had a tour of the greenhouse in the commons. We saw lettuce, chard, and kale seedlings started and some tomato plants growing using hydroponics. The plants grow with no soil! Just rocks and water. The third graders got a chance to plant using both methods (traditional and hydroponics). We even got to peek at the banana trees growing. What an awesome day! Thanks to Chris Hartman for the amazing science experience!

Lafcadio
We are reading Lafcadio. Lafcadio is a story about a lion named “grumph” or “mrumph” or “prumph”. So anyway, he was a happy lion that lived in the jungle, and he ate raw rabbits, laid in the sun and drink water from the stream and was lazy. So one day, he was sleeping under the warm sun, and he herd a “BOOM!” All the lions jumped up and ran but there was one lion that did not was “grumph” or “mrumph “or “pru…” wait i think we have gone over this before. Then he went out and he ate a hunter like normal lions and stole the hunters gun and tried to shoot with his paw and it worked! He practiced and practiced and then he was so good, he cold shoot everything. One day, a circus man came and asked, “Do you want to be in my circus?” “sure” So they went to the city and went to the restaurant and the owner said, I do not allow lions! “Grumph’” said the lion – have a seat!

Lafacadio – by Shel Silverstein
In Lafcadio, there is a lion that saw a hunter. He ate the hunter and took his gun. Then he ate all the hunters. The a circus man came and said, “will you be in my circus?”He said, “yes!” “Well, then let’s get moving,” said the circus man. So they went to New York City. They went to a restaurant. They did not let lafcadio in but lafcadio said, “roooooooooooar”. So, they let him in! He order a marshmallow. The next day, he went to the circus. It went really well and traveled around the world.
